"Officer injured, three dogs electrocuted on Queen St."

"A police officer is injured, two dogs are dead and a third is in critical condition after being electrocuted on Queen St. E, and Parliament St.

According to police, the dogs were walking on the side walk and stepped on a metal cover for an electrical junction when they were electrocuted.

One of the dogs bit its female owner and was clearly in signs of distress, so the owner and a passerby flagged down police at 2:38 p.m.

A female officer was then electrocuted when she touched the dog and also came into contact with something metal.

She was taken to hospital with pain in her arm.

Police said that after this incident, it soon became clear that two other dogs had also been electrocuted.

One of the dogs was immediately taken to a veterinary clinic located across the street and is still in critical condition.

The sidewalk has been cordoned off and Toronto Hydro are on the scene. Hydro has not yet figured out what is causing the live current.

Police say that the large Hydro vehicles are causing traffic slowdowns."
